Montessori Anaheim, CA

Most people know Anaheim, CA as home to the world-famous tourist attraction, Disneyland. Before the theme park was built though, Anaheim was a rural community inhabited by landowners who farmed orange groves. It was not until the 1950s, when Disneyland was built, did Anaheim transform into a metropolitan city. Today, tourists from all over the world flock to Anaheim to visit Disneyland as well as nearby attractions like the Anaheim Convention Center, Honda Center, and Angels Stadium.

The city of Anaheim is served by eight school districts including Anaheim City School District, Anaheim Union High School District, Orange, and Magnolia School District.  Overall, the city has 24 schools and serves over 19,000 K to 6th grade students. Some of the city’s schools include Oxford Academy, Western High School, Woodsbro Elementary, and Orangeview Junior High. A large number of students in Anaheim are from Spanish-speaking families. In order for English speaking and Spanish speaking students to benefit from each other, Anaheim City School District offers a dual language immersion program, which mixes English dominant students with Spanish dominant students.  This program offers students an opportunity for intensive interaction and learning. The program teaches students to speak, read, and write in Spanish while also maintaining a rigorous academic program in English. The goal of the program is for students to become biliterate in both English and Spanish, which will give them an enormous advantage in the future. Students are expected to stay in the program from Kindergarten to 6th grade in order to fully receive its benefits.

At Starbright Montessori, we understand the importance of cultural diversity and language immersion. Many of our students come from Spanish-speaking households and are in need of an environment that can help them transition into an English dominant school system. That’s why we make it a priority to employ teachers that are fluent in both Spanish and English. It has been scientifically proven that young children have an incredible ability to acquire new languages much easier than adults. Bilingual teachers can help with this process and also communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking parents and caretakers.
