Montessori Activities

Love of Learning

The preschool classroom is for children ages 2 to 6 years of age.

Children at this age posses a once-in-a-lifetime ability to absorb information from his or her environment like a sponge. Dr. Maria Montessori referred to this as the “absorbent mind”. These early experiences shape their perceptions about the world and their attitudes about learning.

Environment

Our Preschool Montessori classroom encourages child’s natural desire to be independent by carefully teaching your child how to care for his or her own needs and provide freedom to practice and improve within limits. When children can successfully care for themselves and the environment in which they live, their demeanor becomes one of self-accomplishment and self-confidence.

Activities

Our Preschool classroom teachers are trained to always assist and direct without interfering with the child’s natural desire to teach himself and become independent.

Primary curriculum includes language, math, geography, history, biology, science and more.  Each lesson is individually presented to the child when they are ready.  All materials in this classroom helps develop child’s concentration, self confidence and self reliance.

While majority of the mornings and evenings are spent doing self-directed activities, there are instances where the teacher will gather the classroom for circle time.  During circle time, children sing songs, story time, and share biological, geographical and historical themes of interest.  Your child will have the opportunity to participate in these activities and share an item related to themes of interest.
